Well, Andy Griffith was a bit of a dunce when it came to politics, but he sure was an entertaining, likeable guy. He died at age 86 today in his home. Andy Griffith was known primarily for his work on Matlock and The Andy Griffith Show, but he did quite a bit of other work, particularly television appearances. Sheriff Andy Taylor was so popular he showed up in various other programs such as the Danny Kaye show, and of course the spinoff Gomer Pyle.
Andy Griffith was an overall entertainer. He was a great singer and recorded quite a few gospel, roots, and country albums. He was a comedian too, which few people remember these days. Here's one of his most famous bits, a confused country boy trying to describe a football game despite having no familiarity with the sport:

Griffith was known for his cornpone country delivery and persona, always the "aw shucks" innocent who was still wise and capable, fooling the sophisticated and clever. Well he's gone now, and God be with his family.
